Life...sometimes

I am the first of 40 days...

Well, it's Ash Wednesday. And according to Catholic tradition(I don't know if it's really an official Catholic tradition, but hey, we were taught about it in school when I was still a biddy-boy, and well..just one of those things that stick w/ you throughout), one sacrifices stuff just as Jesus sacrificed himself for us. When we were kids, we gave up stuff like, candy or something small like that...and though we take that w/ us into adulthood, we also do things to better ourselves as people, and as christians...well at least ideally, we should. People always ask what the point is of giving up stuff that is so trivial, or materialistic. And I guess that goes back to our childhood days of giving up stuff...we don't fully understand the scope of the Lenten Season...but now, we do(didn't I just say all of that a few sentences ago in a different way? he he he). Anyway, I have decided to give up the following:
  • being so critical about people
  • complaining about coworkers
  • self-serving/selfish acts
  • eating out...2 meals a week, and taking the money I would have spent and donating it...
(exception...if I'm on a business trip, I have no choice but to buy food lots of the time)
  • alcohol(exception - church)
Now there are mixed btwn material an immaterial(is that a word?) things. And normally, I wouldn't publish it because I am a follower of that one passage in the Gospels where it says if you fast, don't let everyone know and when you pray, don't just do it for people to notice, (it's actually the Ash Wednesday gospel..Mark chapter 6)...but I am letting it out so people can call me out on things should I ever not hold fast to these sacrifices. I want people to tell me if I'm not practicing what I, well in a sense, "preach." So there ya have it!
I was soooo hungry until my coworker and I grabbed some Wahoos after Ash Wednesday mass...but now, I'm getting a little hungry again. Fasting is tough man... At least I get to have a snack before I work out tonight... But it'll totally affect how long I work out for. Maybe that'll be a good thing. I'm already not really in the mood, he he he.

Did you know?
Wahoo's raised the price of their bowls from $5.99 - $6.99. Booooooo
